Testing edible plants

Here is a survival tactic to test if plants are edible or contain harsh chemicals.
  1. Test only one part of the plant at a time
  2. Separate the plants into basic components (Leafs, Stems, Roots, Buds and Flowers)
  3. Smell the plant for strong or acid odors
  4. Do not start eating for 8 hours before you starting the test
  5. During the 8 hours, test it for contact poison, place it inside of your elbow gap, Allow 15 min for reaction.
  6. Select a plant component and how you will eat it.
  7. Rub a small portion of the plant on your lips to see if any burning or itching is caused.
  8. After 3 minutes, if there is no reaction, place it on your tongue for 15 minutes.
  9. If there is still no reaction, place it in your mouth and chew for 15 minutes, do not swallow.
  10. If no burning, itching, numbness, stinging or other irritation occurs, swallow the plant.
  11. Wait 8 hours, if any effects occur, force vomiting and drink as much water available.
  12. Eat x5 the amount you last ate if there is no negative signs, then wait for 8 hours.
  13. Plant should be safe for eating.

Some plants have edible and non edible components so make sure you do your research or try this with caution if you must.

  6. Another good method is to cock it and smell. If it doesn't smell 'eatable', it is not.
